We already knew what color we wanted, Deep Black with the black interior. Came back on Saturday to test drive a b6. We went home, mulled over what we wanted to do. The premium sound system sounds better than the old monsoon in my former B5 and was close in quality to the Bose Symphony II system I had in my A6. The trunk, as usual, is enourmous, opens quite easy and is an auto open.
The front and rear seats have thigh supports which add to the comfort for the long haul. VW increased the size of the Passat overall and that is obvious when you climb into the back seat, legroom is increased, the entry and exit to the rear seats is much easier than it was before. Easier to keep clean and maintain and should hold up to wear better than cloth. Coming from a 2000 b5 GLS the leatherette was a refreshing change for the base interior. A few had leather seats, otherwise all elatherette. The dealer in question had all the same thing, 2.0T with package 1 + cold weather package. The stock wheel gap seems to be greatly reduced so a stock Passat doesn't look like it's ready for off roading. The design, while a drastic change from the B5 was really clean and the car flowed front to back. while in the showroom all these bad thought, huffiness and negative thoughts of VW went out the window. At the time I had a 2000 A6 2.7T and was following Audi, saw they were doing the same thing (makes sense) and was up in arms over the change. I have been following the upcoming 06 pretty closely, I was appalled at the new design in print and felt that VW was going to hurt themselves. While we were looking at the 05's my fiance and I walked to the 06 in the showroom and checked it out. Went to the dealer and found those deals weren't as good as they advertized. I heard an ad for drastic markdowns on 05 Passats. It is the definitive automotive business management simulator.I am a former 2K 1.8T B5 owner, I was shopping used, but couldn't find anything I was happy with.
